The Fire Department, City of New York (“FDNY”) seeks a full-time Agency Attorney Level III in the Equal Employment Opportunity (“EEO”) Office.
Reporting directly to the Assistant Commissioner of EEO and the Director, the successful candidate will:
- With minimal oversight and exercising significant independent judgment, conduct investigations of complex EEO violations;
- conduct interviews of complainants, respondents, and witnesses;
- gather relevant documents and prepare written summaries of investigations and closing memos to the Assistant Commissioner for EEO, including referrals to the appropriate bureaus for action;
- research legal issues relating to EEO law;
- conduct EEO compliance inspections;
- when needed, conduct thorough intake interviews and draft detailed and timely intake reports;
- conduct EEO training for FDNY employees, EEO counselors, and FDNY units as needed; and
- assist in the development of EEO statistics and reports.
Skills they'd like
Prior investigative and/or litigation experience is strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of Title VII of the Civil Rights Law of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and New York State and City Human Rights Laws. Excellent writing, analytical, communications, and people skills.
